The documentary Gather is an intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty. Gather follows Nephi Craig, a chef from the White Mountain Apache Nation (Arizona), opening an indigenous cafĂ© as a nutritional recovery clinic; Elsie Dubray, a young scientist from the Cheyenne River Sioux Nation (South Dakota), conducting landmark studies on bison; and the Ancestral Guard, a group of environmental activists from the Yurok Nation (Northern California), trying to save the Klamath river. View the screening with us and engage in conversation afterward.

Book to Action 2021

Our 2021 Book to Action event series has begun! The theme this year is Sustainability and the chosen book is Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Reserve your copy of the book here or call or text the Library. Ebook and digital audiobook copies are also available with your Monrovia Library card. Read the book along with us and participate in our event series to learn more about caring for our community and the planet. All ages are welcome to participate in Book to Action, though please note that all events are geared towards adults and teens.
