Oaks have been a food and timber source for many cultures around the world. They have been responsible for the rise of empires and the survival of nations. On this video tour, we’ll look at the importance, both horticultural and historical, of not only California’s native oaks, but oaks in Monrovia and around the world as well. Arboretum botanist Frank McDonough will tour you around the world of oaks via the Arboretum’s extensive collection of these trees, including a look at the Arboretum’s endemic natural grove of endangered Engelmann oaks.
