Program Description

Event Details

The Monrovia Community Center’s Lunch & Learn program is FREE for all seniors. Seniors are invited to the Community Center on the second Thursday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to enjoy lunch and to be informed on a variety of topics. Each program is open to seniors 50 years and older. Reservations are required by calling the Monrovia Community Center at (626) 256-8246.

This month's discussion is on how to make homes more resilient in the face of increasing wildfire risks. This session will provide practical common sense strategies for fire-resistant home design and hardening, utilizing smart building strategies and materials, and proactive safety measures that help protect homes and communities.

Attendees will learn about key features that improve home durability—such as defensible space, ember-resistant construction, and energy-efficient upgrades—that not only enhance safety but also reduce long-term costs. We’ll also explore ways communities can work together to strengthen local preparedness and response efforts.

This workshop was made possible by grant funding from the California State Library.
